DOHA: A special committee has been set up to investigate the death of Qatari powerboat racer Rashid Al Mansoori, while taking part in a Pleasure boat race at Katara beach last Saturday.
The panel has been formed under instructions of Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al Thani, president of the Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF), organisers of the race, a QMSF statement has said.
The death of Al Mansoori has sparked a controversy with several fellow racers lashing out at the organisers for their alleged failure to ensure the necessary safety procedures during the race.
The committee is expected to complete its investigation and come out with a report in a week The Peninsula
