DOHA: Title-contenders Al Sadd and Al Ahli registered identical victories over their respective opponents to claim winning points in the Qatar Stars League (QSL) yesterday at different venues in Doha.
Hussain Amute’s Al Sadd scored a goal apiece in each half to overcome Al Arabi 2-1 at their own backyard to continue the close title-fight with rivals and defending champions Lekhwiya.
Their star striker Khalfan Ibrahim (pictured) gave them the breakthrough by netting the goal in 43rd minute of the match.
Al Sadd made it 2-0 when Hasan Khalid Haydos found target in the 65th minute.
Al Arabi got their consolation goal through Ahmad Mohamed Shahi, two minutes before real time.
At the Lekhwiya Stadium, Al Ahli also defeated El Jaish with a 2-1 score-line, though they had to fight back to earn winning points after conceding an early goal.
Wagner Renan Ribeiro put El Jaish ahead by scoring in the fifth minute and the side continued to lead 1-0 at the break.
Al Ahli took 16 more minutes of the second half to level the score with Alain Dioko scoring in the 61st minute. Their aggressive approach paid dividend again as Pedro Miguel Correia netted the winner in 78th minute.
