Doha: Doha Bank presented 11 schools in Qatar with ECO-Schools Programme Awards in recognition of their commitment to sustainable practices and for developing innovative solutions to everyday environmental challenges.
The schools propagated the concept of eco-consciousness among students and demonstrated innovation and creativity in completing their green projects as part of the programme.
ECO-Star trophies for ‘Environmental Health’ went to MES Indian School (Campus Care Force project), Shantiniketan Indian School (Green School Garden project), Pakistan Education Centre (Solution to Improve Environmental Health) and Philippine International School Qatar (High school — Laughing Dove Retreat project). In ‘Energy Saving’ category, Bhavan’s Public School received a trophy for reducing the use of electricity and water on the campus and at student homes, while in ‘Water Management’ category, Philippine School Doha got the award for using AC condensate to water the vegetable garden.
ECO-Star trophies for ‘Waste Management’ went to Al Ahnaf Bin Qais Independent Preparatory School (Managing Waste project), Birla Public School (Best Out of Waste project), Philippine International School Qatar (elementary — Plastic Bottle Reduction and Recycling Programme), Al Tamakon for Comprehensive Education for (Creative Arts from Waste project) and Doha Modern Indian School (Waste No Waste project). Certificates made from recycled paper were distributed to students and teachers who worked on the projects.

As an initiative to foster environmental awareness among children and young people, on whom the future of our planet depends, the programme can play a catalysing role in helping Qatar achieve the next level of environmental excellence,” said Dr R Seetharaman, Group CEO of the bank.
