DOHA: Hamad Medical Corporation is expanding Al Sadd Children Emergency Centre, a senior official has said.
Work involves the construction of an extension building with five new clinics and five patient examination rooms, reports Al Sharq.
The centre has 45 beds and 13 more will be added, said Dr Hani Khalaf, Paediatric Consultant at the hospital.
“Emergency children centres  in other parts of the world rarely have a large number of beds,” he said.
He said the number of medical staff will also be increased to cope with the rise in the number of patients.
Children emergency centres in Doha have a large turnout especially during winter. They receive about 2500 to 3000 patients in a day.
Al Sadd Centre is among the most popular, receiving about 1,500 patients a day, followed by Al Rayyan Emergency Centre (800) and the Airport Emergency Centre (500).
HMC emergency children centres received 557,891 patients last year of whom 21,922 were referred to observation rooms for further treatment.
