Qatar Charity donates QR100,000 to QRC for disaster control camp

DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has received a QR100,000 donation from Qatar Charity (QC) for the Sixth Disaster Management Camp which seeks to enhance the culture of disaster preparedness in the Qatari society.
This is the fourth time that QC has supported the camp financially and provided some of its associates as trainees, according to a QRC release yesterday.
Final preparations are under way for the 10-day camp to be held from March 31 to April 9 the Marine Scout Camp, Al Khor, under the patronage of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.
According to the agenda of the camp, which is implemented by 45 specialised trainers, participants will receive comprehensive information about disaster management and international concepts such as sphere standards, psychological support, the international humanitarian law, secure access and restoring family links.
They will also be trained in assessment and coordination; healthcare; water and sanitation; food and distribution; sheltering, registration and logistics; and media.
This year, the camp is expected to attract about 350 participants from Qatar and abroad.
Invitations have been sent to more than 20 national societies in the Middle East and North Africa, in coordination with Qatari government and non-governmental organizations, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations and the GCC Secretariat-General.
Rashid bin Saad Al Mohannadi, Director,  Social Development, QRC, and Camp Manager, praised QC’s cooperation in many programmes and activities and said this initiative is not new for such an organisation as QC with a long track record of charity.
The contribution, he said, strengthens partnership and cooperation and helps build the preparedness culture in the Qatari society to keep it ready for any emergencies.
Al Mohannadi said efforts of QRC and participants in the camp contribute to national capacity building in a systematic manner that aligns with the priorities of Qatar National Vision 2030 to seek a stable life in society and cope with latest developments in disaster preparedness and response all over the world. The Peninsula
