DOHA: A criminal court has sentenced two GCC nationals to jail for robbing a person of cash at gunpoint on a highway outside the city.
The court sentenced the main convict to three years in jail and his accomplice got a two-year prison term.
The accomplice told the court that he was taken by the main convict to where he committed the crime on the excuse that he needed help since one of the tyres of his car had burst.
He said he had no idea that the main convict was going to commit a highway robbery.
The accomplice also told the judges that the main convict assaulted the victim and fired in the air to scare him and rob cash worth QR4,500 ($1,236).
The convict took away from the victim his car keys as well, local Arabic daily Al Raya reported. A search of the victim’s car by the police led to the discovery of a blank cartridge from the front passenger seat.
The incident took place on Al Zubara Road. The court, taking a serious view of the crime, announced the jail terms for the duo. They were also charged with possessing and using unlicensed weapons.
