AFII hosts session on career management

DOHA: Al Faisal International for Investment (AFII) hosted an interactive session with career management expert Prof Andrew Garner at Qatar University (QU). Organised by AFII and Qatar University’s College of Business and Economics, the session was aimed at helping students in identifying their goals for the future. It also served towards the realisation of the values and objectives outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030, as well as the development strategies and the Qatarisation initiatives.
Speaking about career management and career development, Prof Andrew Garner - who is a mentor to several globally high profile CEOs - urged students to establish their unique brand identity and differentiate themselves from others. He also stressed on the importance of goal setting and being in the right place at the right time. “If you do not know where you are going, the road will get you there... But be careful as there is not any journey without a goal. Hence, it is important to set goals and then taking action once you are fairly certain about your career goals,” Prof Garner said.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr Nitham Hindi, Dean of the College of Business and Economics at Qatar University, said: “Conducting such interactive sessions will help our students build knowledge and understanding and gain an insight into several aspects of career building and progression. This underlines the college’s efforts to provide students with a highly intellectual environment to explore and achieve their full potential, which will contribute to shaping the career of future of professionals in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.”
Prof Garner has taught Career Management at business schools around the world from Harvard to Singapore, published the internationally regarded book on the subject Smart Moves, and has undertaken many long-term mentoring assignments, especially with fast rising talent in leading FTSE companiesThe Peninsula
