MERIBEL, France--Marcel Hirscher crowned a superb season-ending World Cup finals by winning the men's slalom and the discipline's crystal globe on Sunday.
Hirscher, who had already won the giant slalom globe, claimed a record fourth consecutive overall title by default Saturday after closest rival Kjetil Jansrud of Norway opted out of racing the slalom.
Felix Neureuther, who started with a 55-point lead over Hirscher in the slalom standings, was the only racer who could have denied the Austrian a third globe, but the German made a terrible mistake on his first leg.
Hirscher, however, made no such error on the Roc de Fer course, third in the first leg and then powering to victory in an aggregate time of 1min 33.53sec.
Italian Giuliano Razzoli was second at 0.83sec, with Russian Alexander Khoroshilov (+1.09) rounding out the podium.
Hirscher finished atop the slalom standings on 614 points, Neureuther netting only 22pts for his 12th-placed finish to stand second, 23pts adrift.
