DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) is closely monitoring the devices being used in beauty salons and many of them are likely to be banned due to potential health risks.
Quoting a source at SCH’s licensing department, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday that the department has studied 69 devices and of these only 10 to 15 are expected to be allowed. And their use will be controlled through strict medical supervision.
The devices under study include slimming devices, those used for laser and cellulite treatment and skin and hair peel. Many of these devices are currently being used without medical supervision and has posed health hazards to the users, said the daily.
Only a qualified health professional would be allowed to work on such devices. Slimming devices could be the most dangerous if used without proper medical supervision, said the source.
Many beauty salons are taking approval from customers before treatment using documents in English and this makes it difficult for them to understand the contents, said the daily.
