Winners of 2015 Martyr Al Jabir Awards to be honoured today

DOHA: The winners of 2015 Martyr Ali Hassan Al Jabir Awards for journalists will be honoured today. 
In memory of Al Jabir, Aljazeera cameraman who was martyred in Libya, the National Human Rights Committee awards the annual prize in three categories. Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Secretary-General of the committee, announced the winners yesterday. The awards are worth $20,000
Umar Buhafaz from Yemen has been selected in photo category for his pictures on child labour; Nasir Al Sahli from Palestine in the investigation category for his work on ‘Migration to Italy: Trade killing the migrant and encourage human traffickers’.
The documentary Prisoner behind bars by Syrian producer Khalid Aldgham has been selected in the documentary category. A total of 157 nominations were received. 
Al Attiyah said the competition now limited to the Arab region will be expanded to global level next year. Winners in the first two categories will receive $5,000 each and the winner in the third category from $5,000 to $10,000. From next year, the prize for documentary will be $10,000, she said. 
Also from next year, cartoons and citizen journalism categories will be added. The awards were initially given to photographers.
