Lavrov Meets UN Special Envoy for Syria

Moscow: Russian Minister of Foreign Sergey Lavrov met on Wednesday with United Nations (UN) Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, a day before the new round of negotiation talks on Syria taking place in Geneva, Switzerland. 

Lavrov said that Russia values the efforts of de Mistura to find an political solution for the Syrian conflict. Last time a slight advancement was achieved, however efforts must be unified on the four pillars announced earlier including that of the constitution, he added. 

De Mistura said he will be joining the talks tomorrow, hoping to reach a political advancement.

Earlier this month, Geneva witnessed the fourth round of negotiation talks on settling the Syrian conflict with the sponsorship of the UN. During those talks, de Mistura presented the negotiating parties with an unofficial document with 12 points regarding the settlement vision and the future of Syria.
