Initiative to encourage sports among students launched

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Ministry of Sports and Youth yesterday launched an initiative for joint cooperation to enhance and coordinate efforts and integrate roles and responsibilities.

The launch ceremony was attended by Minister of Sports and Youth H E Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali and Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi. The Minister of Education and Higher Education, said: “The initiative reflects the extent of cooperation between the two ministries to achieve benefit and exchange experiences.

“The programmes aim at enhancing the school environment, by developing students’ skills and creating opportunities for creativity, innovation and a spirit of competition in order to improve and develop students’ capabilities and potentials, while preserving the authentic Qatari culture”.

The joint cooperation initiative aimed at exchanging experiences, best practices and optimal utilisation of capabilities, to develop the capabilities of students, teachers, employees, parents, the media and society, in all fields.

It also aims at discovering talents, exploding creative energies, investing leisure time, enhancing life skills, and raising the status of stakeholders on both sides. The initiative also encourages sports among students and youth, builds and enhances their self-confidence, helps them achieve all their potential, attracts and nurtures people with specific talents, raises the cultural level of young people and consolidates their national identity.

It will also increase community participation in sports, achieve sports excellence, and enhance the use of available sports and recreational facilities.

The joint cooperation initiative included several areas, including organising summer activity between youth centres and schools, in a way that contributes to serving youth and students during the summer holidays, expanding the activities and programmes of the Qatari Scientific Club in coordination with schools, and organising periodic competitions between schools.
