DOHA: Jordan's Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Ensour called on the International Community to assume its responsibilities towards putting an end to the Syrian tragedy and helping Jordan to provide humanitarian support and relief for the Syrian refugees.
Dr. Ensour stressed that there are 1.2 million Syrian refugees in Jordan and their number is constantly increasing.
In an interview with the Qatari daily (Al Sharq) published today, Ensour denied the presence of US troops on the Jordanian territory to train Syrian fighters.
He said that the US presence is limited to 200 troops for only chemical warfare purposes to provide technical assistance if the Syrian refugees or Jordanian communities come under any chemical attacks.
He also approved Jordan's request to deploy Patriot missiles to protect refugees from retaliatory attacks by the Syrian regime.
Regarding Jordanian parliament's decision to expel the Israeli ambassador because of Israel's attacks on sanctities and al-Aqsa Mosque, the Jordanian PM said that the House of Representatives voted unanimously against Israel and that nothing brings Jordanians together like al-Aqsa .
He warned Israel of tampering with the sanctities, noting to the peace agreement stipulated trusteeship of holy places in Jerusalem with Jordan and that the Israeli tampering denounces this agreement.
Dr. Ensour confirmed that his government is working on drafting amendments in laws of elections, parties, opinion and media and press freedoms, denying in this context any intention to obstruct the desire of the House of Representatives to amend the election law.
Jordan's Prime Minister acknowledged the difficulty of the economic situation in Jordan, saying that oil bill is the black hole in the Jordanian economy and more than 18 percent of the budget goes to support fuel and not a price for it. (QNA)
