DOHA: In the free practice of the seventh round of the Qatar International Road Racing Championship (QIRRCH), which is the last leg of the event for this season, Nasser Al Malki clocked the fastest time with a lap time of 2.04.558 at Losail International Circuit, yesterday.
“In the free practice, I haven’t push to the maximum, I just checked how was the track and I am very happy with my lap timing. In the qualifying I will change to new tyres and I hope to get the pole position again for this last round” Al Malki said after the free practice sessions.
The second and third positions went to Qatar Motor and Motorcycling Federation (QMMF) riders, Alex Cudin and Nina Prinz respectively.
Both riders still didn’t find the right set up of their new bikes as in the last round they changed from Suzuki to Kawasaki.
After the free practice, Cudlin said: “I don’t have feeling at all with the bike. Nina and I have the same problem with the suspension and hope we can make some changes and do it better in the qualifying.”
A total of 32 riders took part yesterday.
The first race of QIRRCH is scheduled to take place today at 6.30pm, with the second race set to begin at 9.05pm.
The fastest rider in the LARRS category was the Indian rider Rajini Krishnan.
Meanwhile, in the free practice of the Qatar National Road Racing Championship, the leader of the Championship in the Open Class, Qatar’s Abdulaziz Abdulla made the best time, 2.23.062 with his Porsche Carrera.
The Australian Lotus driver Talal Wehbe made the second best time and Pavel Nedobity also with a Lotus was third in the free practice.
In the Production class, Mohamed Al Aseiri grabbed first position in his category and Peter De Vido second.
The car race will take place today at 7.45pm.
