Maersk Oil honoured for environmental development

DOHA: Maersk Oil Qatar (MOQ), the country’s largest offshore oilfield operator, has made great progress on environmental level with more than 90 percent reduction in daily average flaring since 2007, according to its recently released ‘2013 Sustainability Report’.
The report reinforcing the company’s commitment to the long-term development strategy of Qatar and highlights its environmental, social and governance performance for the past year. “MOQ is proud to play an important role in realising the long-term sustainable development of Qatar, in alignment with the four pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030”, said Lewis Affleck, Managing Director of MOQ.
Affleck said: “As operator of Qatar’s largest offshore oil field –Al Shaheen — for over 20 years, we take our responsibility to sustainable development of Qatar very seriously. This report highlights the various steps we’re taking to be a responsible operator, in alignment with the four pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, as well as outlining a number of significant environmental, health and safety, social and governance accomplishments.”
In addition to a significant reduction in flaring since 2007, other highlights from the report include a continued investment in local goods and services with $650m spent in 2013; developing Qatari nationals through a five-year strategic plan; strategic partnerships with academic institutions and industry bodies; and a commitment to improving health and contributing to local skills and capacity creation, focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and leadership development.
