DOHA: A criminal court has fined a Nepali QR10,000 for driving recklessly and hitting a Bangladeshi who was crossing a road in the Industrial Area.
The motorist walked away with a fine because his victim did not suffer critical injuries, else, the punishment according to the traffic law is jail for one month to three years and a fine of QR10,000 to QR50,000 or both, local Arabic daily Al Raya said yesterday.
The convict confessed he was driving recklessly and was negligent during police interrogation, but denied the charge when the matter went to the Public Prosecution. Circumstantial evidence showed he was guilty.
Medical reports, though, to the convict’s good luck, showed that the victim had not suffered any injuries that would render him disabled, the daily said.
