Doha: As part of its annual ‘Eid In Qatar’ preparations, Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has launched a GCC-wide advertising campaign to promote events and activities in Qatar during Eid to attract visitors.
QTA is marketing Eid Al Fitr festival in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE and Oman on radio, TV and in newspapers.
The festival will be a seven-day extravaganza from the first day of Eid.
Tourism data released by QTA for the first quarter of 2014 reveal that the total number of visitors from around the world rose by 26 percent, while from Kuwait it was 42 percent.
Data show that the number of GCC visitors grew by 5 percent, with 188,621 from Saudi Arabia, making it the largest single source of GCC visitors.
“Our aim is to make Qatar a favourable destination for international and GCC visitors. Given that we share the same values, culture and traditions, it is our duty to make Qatar as approachable and attractive to them as possible, particularly during Eid festivities, so that we can celebrate together,” said Rashed Al Qurese, Marketing and Promotion Director, QTA.
To make the festival memorable, QTA is teaming up with the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Katara Cultural Village, Souq Waqif, The Pearl-Qatar, Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, Lusail Circuit, Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve, Al Rayyan Radio, and Aqua Park Qatar.
Participating shopping malls include Hyatt Plaza, City Center Doha, Landmark, Al Khor Mall, Lagoona Mall and The Mall.
Last year’s festival saw more than 75,000 people visiting Qatar. QTA oversaw preparations to receive residents and regional visitors, ensuring their enjoyment of entertainment activities, games and celebrations organised by the authority and supporting organisations.
Dozens of cultural and entertainment activities are scheduled for this year’s festival across Qatar, suitable for all ages and preferences.
QTA is launching a website for Eid (eidinqatar.qa) which will have complete information of activities at locations. It will also engage people via its social media channels on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
The hashtag for Eid is #eidinqatar and for Arabic, #العيد_في_قطر. Use them to get a glimpse into activities across Qatar. All activities and events are listed on the website www.onqatar.qa
