MANILA: Three people died while another one was wounded in an explosion inside a passenger bus in Zamboanga City late on Friday afternoon, police said yesterday.
It was not immediately clear if the explosion was related to the hostage crisis in the city, involving a faction of the Moro National Liberation Front.
Zamboanga City police spokesman Ariel Huesca said the explosion occurred around 5.50pm inside a bus parked at a depot at the village of Labuan. Among those killed in the explosion were conductor Meliton Orquijo and washers Hudson Guinilac and Allison Saavedra.
Extortion case against police
MANILA: The Office of the Ombudsman has recommended the filing of charges against a former Quezon City Police District station commander and four other policemen for allegedly extorting money from a retail store owner in 2010. In a resolution released yesterday, Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer Yvette Marie Evaristo recommended the filing of a robbery extortion case against station commander Superintendent Crisostomo Mendoza.
Also charged were SPO1 Amor Guiang, PO2 Rodger Ompoy, SPO2 Dante Nagera, PO3 Jerry Ines, and Muslim Vendors’ Association-Litex president Mangorsi Ampaso.
Murder suspect arrested
MANILA: Samuel Decimo, 19, a construction worker, was arrested last night and confessed to stabbing account executive Kristelle “Kae” Davantes repeatedly until she died, according to the National Bureau of Investigation.
The gang was looking for someone to rob and chanced upon Davantes in front of her home in Las Piñas.
