DOHA: As the season when Qatar witnesses scattered to sometimes heavy rains is approaching nearer, the authorities have begun making preparations to prevent water logging in low-lying and vulnerable areas. Weather forecasters told this newspaper yesterday that normally the time of the year when one can expect rains begins from September-end and lasts until mid-November. “With the onset of winter the chances of rain increases in Qatar,” said a forecaster.
Meanwhile, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported that the Department of Service Affairs at Doha Municipality and Drainage Networks Operation and Maintenance Deaprtment of Ashghal (Public Works Authority) held a coordination meeting yesterday in order to be prepared to prevent and tackle water-logging in areas during rains. Civic and Ashghal officials come in for criticism from the public as sometimes they are taken aback with the sudden onset of rains.
