French president honours Qatar’s ambassador

Paris: French President Francois Hollande yesterday awarded the rank of “Commander of the Legion of Honor” to Qatar’s Ambassador to France Mohamed Jaham Al Kuwari on the occasion of the expiry of his tour of duty in France.

The award ceremony was held at Hollande’s office in the presence of Jack Lang and Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres,  former ministers of culture; Christophe de Margerie, Total CEO; Khater Mohamed Al Khater, Second Secretary at the Qatari Embassy; Paul Jean-Ortiz, French President’s Diplomatic Advisor, and Emmanuel Bonne, Hollande’s Advisor for North Africa, the Middle East and the United Nations.

Hollande hailed Ambassador Al Kuwari’s effortse, which paved the way for a better understanding between France and Qatar, pointing to his contribution to the development of a number of projects of significance to both countries.

Al Kuwari  underlined the growth of ties between the two countries in political, economic, cultural and scientific spheres. He also highlighted the joint industrial and investment projects between the two countries, notably with Total, which he said has contributed to the development process in Qatar.

Al Kuwari was adorned the rank of “Officer of the Legion of Honor” in September 2007 by former president Nicolas Sarkozy after he had been awarded the rank of “Knight” in August 1998. 

Algerian speaker meets Qatari envoy

 
Algiers: Speaker of the  People’s National  Assembly in Algeria  Mohamed Al Arabi Ould Khalifa met here yesterday Qatar’s Ambassador to Algeria Abdullah bin Nasser Al Hemaidi on the occasion of the end of his tenure. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and ways to improve them.
