Emir asks Shura to convene

DOHA: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday issued Decree No. 43 of 2014, inviting the Advisory Council to convene its 43rd session on November 11.


 

Ambassadors appointed

DOHA: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday issued Emiri decision No. 79 of 2014, appointing Sheikh Mubarak bin Fahad bin Jassim Al Thani as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Serbia.
The Emir also issued Emiri Decision No. 80 of 2014, appointing Sayar Abdulrahman Jassim Al Mauda as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan.


 

Ban hails support for Gaza Strip

NEW YORK: The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has praised the generous contribution by
the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the government of Qatar towards payment of salaries of civil service employees in the Gaza Strip.
Ban made the remarks on Tuesday during a Security Council briefing on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian cause.


 

Ministry cracks down on car dealer

DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has cracked down on an automobile dealer for passing off cars damaged in accidents as new and selling them to hapless customers.
The ministry has forced the dealer to return cash to two customers and give away new cars to another two while offering the fifth and the last one some other incentives.
Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported yesterday that the prominent dealer was caught during routine raids by inspectors from the ministry.
The inspectors are armed with judicial powers and sometimes raid car dealers on suspicion as part of monitoring.


 

WISH forum chief appointed

DOHA: World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) has appointed chairperson for the Dementia Forum to discuss challenges, innovation in care-giving, financial models and regulatory framework.
The President of New York Academy of Sciences, Ellis Rubinstein, will lead an expert group to tackle dementia globally, Qatar Foundation said yesterday. The group will submit an evidence-based report to policymakers at the WISH Summit in Qatar on February 17-18.
WISH is a global initiative of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
