Doha: Qatar Petroleum (QP) is the “Silver Sponsor” of the 31st International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) World Conference, which is currently ongoing until October 22 at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
Hosted by the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), the annual event brings together science and technology parks (STP) professionals from all over the world, industry experts, technology developers as well as delegates from the public and private sectors.
This year’s event marks the first time ever that the IASP World Conference is held in the Middle East region, since the launching of the event in 1984. In line with its theme “Science Parks: Where Technology Goes to Work,” the conference programme focuses mainly on the important role of STPs as catalysts for technological developments as well as the value of close cooperation between universities and companies.
As part of its sponsorship of the event, QP has an exhibition stand on the sidelines of the conference, and it prominently showcases the corporation’s extensive operations as well as the activities of its Research and Technology Department.
The Qatar Petroleum Research and Technology Center (QPRTC), which is based in QSTP, is involved in a diverse range of research projects in collaboration with its partners in the industry and academia. Its research activities focus, among others, on acid stimulation, carbon dioxide (CO2) storage, oil fingerprinting, acid gas removal, tyre safety, oil-in-water treatment, and rapid petroleum profiling.
