Qatar’s Abdelqader aims to break world record

Doha: World-record holder in the shot put F34 and member of Team Qatar, Abdelrahman Abdelqader (pictured) is confident he will earn the nation’s first-ever IPC Athletics World Championships medal.
The 27 year-old competing, in front of a home-crowd, is aiming to do repeat of the his record breaking feat at  the Championships which kicks off today at Qatar Sports Club stadium.
“I am confident and well placed to break the record and win the gold medal. My experience in the GCC Championships, wherein I broke the world record in shot put should help my cause,” said Abdelqader, while speaking to journalists on the eve of the competition.
“I hope to perform well here and do my country proud. I want to achieve my best in Doha and win something for my home country. It will be amazing to win gold in front of my friends and family here,” he added.
“I am very proud for my country to be hosting this huge event and it will help to raise awareness of para sport in the Middle East.”
