DOHA: An expatriate working with the Ministry of Environment (MoE) was recently sacked by his office while he was being treated for a mental disease, Al Sharq reported yesterday.

While his plea to change sponsorship was rejected by the ministry, he was also denied exit permit because of financial liabilities, according to the daily.

The employee, whose name or nationality was not mentioned in the report, is said to be in a miserable state and struggling to change his sponsorship to another company so that he may repay a bank loan worth QR130,000.

“I requested my office to issue a no-objection letter for transferring my sponsorship so that I may work with another company and repay my loan but my request was rejected,” the ill-fated employee was quoted as saying.

After getting the termination letter from his office, the man approached officials at the MoE and told them that as per the warning issued from the bank, if he failed to repay the bank loan, he will be sent to jail.

“The concerned authorities have also refused to issue the exit permit for me, which bars me from visiting my family back home,” he said.

He had submitted sick-leave justifying his absence to the MoE and despite providing relevant documents authenticating his treatment, he was sacked.

“I submitted the sick-leave and all medical documents to the concerned authorities but they did not consider my plea and sacked me.”

The man is suffering from a mental disease after a road accident and is being treated at the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).

“Now I am sitting idle at home. I appeal to the authorities to get me back to work or issue the no-objection letter so that I may transfer sponsorship to another company,” the former MoE employee said.
