New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to garner the maximum vote share in the Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh if the Lok Sabha elections are held now, according to the CNN-IBN election tracker conducted by CSDS.
In Gujarat, BJP is projected to secure a 53 percent vote share, the Congress 32 percent and the Aam Aadmi Party seven percent.
In Maharashtra, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is likely to grab 44 percent vote share while the saffron party’s vote share in Madhya Pradesh is likely to be 51 percent.
The Congress in MP may have to make do with 29 percent votes.
In Chhattisgarh, 50 percent vote share is likely to go to the BJP, the poll prediction said and added the Congress may have to be content with 34 percent.
While 71 percent respondents said they are satisfied with the performance of the Gujarat government, 70 percent said they are happy with Narendra Modi as the Gujarat chief minister.
Modi led the approval ratings as preferred prime minister with 46 percent in Gujarat backing him for the top job. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi comes a distant second with only 16 percent in Gujarat rooting for him.
A survey released on Tuesday said the Congress has suffered an erosion in its vote share in Andhra Pradesh and could register a heavy loss in the state if the Lok Sabha elections were held this month.
The study also said the party’s tally may dip in Tamil Nadu but improve in Karnataka and Kerala.
The CNN-IBN-CSDS election tracker for Andhra Pradesh projected 5-9 seats for the party in January 2014. The Congress has 31 MPs in the state. The survey said the YSR Congress was slated to win 11-19 seats, the Telugu Desam Party between nine and 15 and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti 4-8 seats. Others are slated to win up to four seats.
It said there was an eight percent drop in the Congress vote share across Andhra Pradesh, with 24 percent voters projected to vote for it.
In Kerala, the election tracker projected 12-18 seats for the ruling United Democratic Front led by the Congress if elections were held in January 2014. The opposition Left Democratic Front was slated to get 2-8 seats. The Congress has 13 MPs in Kerala and two seats are held by supporting parties.
In Tamil Nadu, the survey projected 15-23 seats for the ruling AIADMK while the opposition DMK was predicted to win 7-13 seats. Other parties were slated to get 4-10 seats. The Congress was slated to get 1-5 seats in the state where it has eight MPs, it said.
The election tracker projected the ruling Congress getting 10-18 seats in Karnataka in January 2014 compared to nine it has at present. The BJP, which won 18 seats in 2009 in the state, was slated to win 6-10 seats. The survey said the Janata Dal-Secular was slated to win 4-8 seats.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said Rahul Gandhi will be the prime minister of India if the Congress party returns to power after the general elections due by May, barely a few days after his party decided not to declare its PM candidate.
“If Congress is called to form the government, I am pretty certain in my mind that Rahul Gandhi will be the prime minister,” Chidambaram said at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting here. He said the Gandhi scion, who is currently the vice president of the pary, has enough fire in his belly to be the prime minister of the country.
Congress party president and Rahul’s mother Sonia Gandhi at the party’s delegates session last week announced that nobody would be named the Congress prime ministerial candidate ahead of the general elections.
