DOHA: Qatari and French armed forces are training side by side at the Gulf Falcon 13 Exercise which started recently in Qatar.

In the framework of the strategic partnership of the two nations, a bilateral operational command post was deployed in Al Saliyat camp to plan and conduct the combined joint exercise.

The training which runs until March 7 covers operational and tactical fields aimed at performing a complete integration of air, land and naval forces as well as Special Forces from the countries.

Some 2,000 soldiers are training hand in hand through the first phase, consisting of a command post exercise and a field training exercise from Al Qalayel camp to Doha Navy and Air bases.

The previous exercise was held in 2008 with the successful Gulf Shield 1. Gulf Falcon 13 was scheduled within a four-year cycle of cooperation. The Qatar General Headquarters and the French Joint Force and Training Headquarters (État-major interarmées de force et d’entrainement) started planning it as early as October 2011.
