DOHA: Qatar University has launched the fifth edition of Life is Engineering Project (LIEP), an initiative for high school students, winners of which will be awarded a trip to Japan to visit the Nissan and Toyota assembly plants.
The initiative attracts students from schools in Qatar to its concept of accessible and fun science and engineering processes to build cars for a final race at Lusail International Circuit.
In the lead-up to the final race in May, participating students will attend technical workshops on Saturdays until the end of March, after which six schools will be selected to receive the car kits for assembly.
“This project brings students in touch with CENG faculty and gives them the opportunity to learn about our engineering programmes and facilities. They are the future leaders who will take the reins of the energy industry and we are proud to guide them towards this goal which is in line with the national vision and development strategies. Thank you to all the sponsors for their continuous contribution to LIEP since its launch in 2009,” said College of Engineering (CENG) Dean Dr Rashid Al Ammari.
The fifth LIEP is sponsored by Raytheon Company, Rasgas, QAPCO, ExxonMobil as Gold Sponsors, and Dolphin Energy and Qatar Shell as Silver Sponsor, and conducted in partnership with Qatar Motors and Motorcycles Federation (QMMF) and Lusail International Circuit.
