ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has delegated identical tasks to two different ministries and announced MP-1 scale salaries for the professionals being hired in these ministries, official sources said.
This is likely to cause losses worth millions of rupees due to the duplication of work, officials said.
The Finance Ministry has already established Implementation and Economic Reform Unit, while the Ministry of Planning has been renamed as the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms.
The prime minister had already appointed an official for the IERU for effective reform, and now the same job has been assigned to the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms, the officials said. The sources said the commission also plans to establish a delivery unit, which had been already developed by the PM office.
According to the revised Terms of Reference (ToR), the restructured IERU will work in close partnership with all stakeholders, including the private sector. The IERU will formulate a private sector development strategy.
It will review existing laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the business environment that are obsolete, overlapping, and inconsistent or unduly adding to the cost of doing business, revealed the details.
The name of the ERU was now changed with the IERU and it was placed under the Advisor to the Ministry of Finance.
