DOHA: Following the Emiri decisions on restructuring of ministries, public authorities and foundations, the Minister of Youth and Sports, H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, has issued a decision to set up a committee.
The committee will facilitate shifting of two departments (for centres and activities) from the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Al Sharq reports.
Senior officials like heads of departments and their deputies are expected to move to their assigned departments soon, followed by the rest of the employees.
Employees on tenterhooks awaiting the Emir decisions now feel relaxed. Some employees are happy that public relations units have been turned into full-fledged departments, as happened in the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, and the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority.
The Emiri decisions made minor changes in some departments of the restructured ministries, and a lot of departments remain unchanged.
New departments carved out at the Ministry of Environment are Department for Climate Change and Department for Industrial Inspection and Combating Pollution.
The Department for Climate Change will propose policies and make plans and programmes to cut emissions that cause climate change, encourage use of clean energy, and review and approve clean energy programmes and projects to protect the environment. It will encourage national initiatives related to climate change and follow up and implement international pacts on climate change.
The Department for Industrial Inspection and Combating Pollution has been authorised to inspect industries and firms dealing in dangerous materials, inspect firms that deal with radioactive substances, and certify companies complying with environment protection rules after inspecting their premises.
