DOHA: Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) has completed a trip to Cambodia where 26 volunteers, students and teachers from Independent schools for girls conducted training for schools.
Volunteers visited capital city Phnom Penh and held workshops for teachers and staff of Hun Sen Rota School and other schools.
Amna Bint Wahab Secondary School for Girls, Al Bayan School for Girls, Al Sailiyah Secondary School for Girls and Qatar Independent Secondary School for Girls participated in the trip.
A total of 400 people attended workshops on skills development and cultural exchange, sports, hygiene, environment and teaching techniques.
Such trips aim to expose volunteers to realities faced by ROTA beneficiaries in countries to raise awareness about education as a tool for change.
These trips further develop volunteers’ psychosocial skills, showcase international volunteering experience and inspire more youth to take part in Qatar-based volunteering activities.
Essa Al Manaai, ROTA Executive Director, said: “We give attention to volunteers and training trips to the most affected areas. The Independent girls’ schools activity cements the importance of collaboration between all members of the local community to work as volunteers to raise awareness about the importance of education in creating dynamic and advanced societies. We extend our gratitude to Vodafone Qatar for continuous support to ROTA efforts to ensure equal educational opportunities for all.”
The trip was part of ROTA International Outreach Programme, funded by Vodafone Qatar.
Dana Haidan, Head, Corporate Social Responsibility, Vodafone Qatar, said: “We have a fantastic partnership with ROTA as part of ‘Vodafone Better World’ CSR programme. We aim to support ROTA in its mission to promote community service and international volunteering among Qatari students.”The Peninsula
