DOHA: A majority of residential building permits issued by municipalities in January were for villas.
Apartment buildings had only a marginal share in the total for the month, official figures show.
The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics has begun issuing building permit details on a monthly basis from this year.
It has released details for January which show that two-thirds (66 percent) of new residential building permits issued were for villas in different municipal areas.
Building permits are issued for new structures, to carry out alterations in existing structures and to create fencing.
A total of 252 licences were issued for villas in the month, followed by houses being built with loans taken from the government (107 permits, or 28 percent).
Apartment buildings had a share of 21 permits, or five percent, of the total.
Private commercial buildings dominated the category of commercial building permits, accounting for 38 percent of the total.
Government buildings had a share of 25 percent in the total, workshops and factories 25 percent and mosques 10 percent.
In terms of municipalities, Al Rayan topped the list accounting for 40 percent (256) of the total, followed by Doha with 20 percent.
Al Daayen accounted for 12 percent, or 77 of the total), Umm Salal (10), Al Wakra (9), Al Khor (6) and Al Shamal (3).
Al Rayyan still includes details of the new Al Shahaniya Municipality.
