Doha: As part of World Down Syndrome Day, Shafallah Centre for Children with Special Needs will organise a sports festival at Villaggio tomorrow.
The 10th annual celebration will be held under the theme ‘My Opportunities, My Choices’ – Enjoying Full and Equal Rights and the Role of Families’ adopted by Down Syndrome International (DSI) and down syndrome societies.
As it coincides with the 21st International Year of Family, DSI this year highlights the role of family and positive contribution towards persons living with down syndrome to enable them to enjoy full and equal rights with others and become active members of society.
Shafallah aims to highlight down syndrome and the rights of persons living with it as well as the integration of children with the condition in society through awareness programmes to boost their self-confidence and abilities and provide psychological and social support for people with down syndrome and their families.
It seeks constantly to raise awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities in all areas through educational, training, tutorial, sports, recreational, physical and community integration programmes. QNA
