DOHA: The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) yesterday honoured the five winners of its recent competition for the best energy-efficient buildings in the country.
Ras Gas headquarters, Al Majaz building number 3, Ministry of Business and Trade headquarters and house of Abdul Razaq Abubakar Al Muslih won the first prize in industrial, commercial, governmental and residential categories, respectively.
These buildings have incorporated a number of energy saving methodologies and techniques matching with the required standards and specifications.
The prizes were given away at the first anniversary of the national campaign for conservation and efficient use of water and electricity – Tarsheed - which was held at Sheraton Doha. Kahramaa also honoured winners of painting and photography contests on energy conservation at schools.
Mohammed Rashid Mubarak Al Naeimi of Al Zubara Elementary School and Zaba Ali Saeed Ali AI Azba of Fatema bint Waleed School won the first prize in painting in the elementary and preliminary group, respectively.
Asma Hamoud Al Mannai of Al Shaima Secondary School was the winner in the photography contest.
Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, QNFSP, Qatar Foundation, Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs, Qatar Sports League, Barwa, Qatar University, Qatar Green Building Council and Unilever were also honoured for their support to Tarsheed. Prize for the best conservation idea went to Dream Laundry.
