DOHA: The eighth edition of the Qatar Petroleum (QP) Environment Fair opens today at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC).
Up to eight QP directorates and departments as well as 29 companies and organisations will showcase their environmental initiatives at the Fair, which has the theme, “Use of water in the oil and gas industry.”
The four-day Fair also features entertaining and educational activities for students and for the whole family, among which are the plays “The Lost Treasure” and “Tarsheed,” which will be presented by Sasol and Kahramaa, respectively.
There will also be technical presentations revolving around the theme of the event today and tomorrow.
The exhibition is open today from 10.30am to 1pm and 4pm to 7pm. The timings tomorrow and on Saturday are: 7.30am to 1pm, and 4pm to 8pm. On Friday, it is open from 2pm to 7pm.
Total will be an active participant in the Environment Fair. The French oil and gas company will host and organise a number of interactive events in its booth during the fair.
The fair focuses mostly on students, the majority of whom are Qatari school and university students and graduates, and highlights the importance of environment protection and different ways to achieve it that will contribute to accomplishing the human development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Total will be conducting presentations in its booth, set up laboratories for schoolchildren of all ages, and will have a daily draw for prizes. Children of all ages will also get the chance to receive and build solar-powered toys.
Total will also use the opportunity to present its water preservation initiatives, currently undertaken in its deep offshore projects and LNG plant project.
Dolphin Energy is to unveil details of its new proposal for its Industrial Water Management Project (IWMP) at the Environment Fair.
The project aims to reduce the quantity of waste water being re-injected into deep wells and maximise internal reuse of waste water by treating waste water from the sulphur recovery units and boiler blowdowns as well as from the oily water sewer, which will be used as irrigation water using an existing sanitary water treatment package.
The produced water will be treated to remove the chemical Kinetic Hydrate Inhibitor as per Qatar Petroleum (QP) requirements and will continue to be injected. The IWMP consists of three packages addressing Sanitary Water, Non Salty Water and Wastewater Reinjection and there are plans to share feed results with QP in the last quarter of 2014 prior to final implementation.
Posters have been developed for display at the company’s stand, highlighting the new project and the company’s water conservation, consumption and waste water trends, as well as providing tips and messages to raise the public’s awareness on the need for water management.
The stand will also offer interactive games designed to engage children and their parents on the need to preserve water using a 3D model of the waste water treatment process. Displayed also is a three-dimensional pop-up poster showcasing Dolphin Energy’s waste water treatment unit and the different water streams treated and reused as irrigation water or injected into deep wells.
