DOHA: The Permanent Committee for Drugs and Alcohol Affairs (PCDAA) has announced the winners of the ninth edition of the annual research contest conducted by the secondary school students union, under the theme ‘Weqaya.’
Ahmad bin Muhammad Al Thani Independent Secondary School won the first place for research presented by its students Hamad Abdul Majeed Al Yafie, Sohail Muhammad Al Riyachi and Ahmad Saif Shatnawi on the subject ‘Role of school in spreading awareness of the hazards of drugs among secondary school students.’
Jassim bin Hamad Independent Secondary School won the second place for research done by its student Abdul Aziz Ahmad Quwaider on the subject ‘Irresponsible impact of media in proliferation of drugs among youth’, while Al Zobarah Independent Secondary School for boys won the third place for research presented by Ahmad Jamal Farid and Amr Abdul Rauf on ‘Drugs Proliferation: Factors and their hazards and methods to save youth and society from them.’
The jury for the contest was chaired by Dr Hessa Muhammad Al Sadiq, Principal of Qatar University College of Education, and the members included Dr Asma Abdullah Al Atiyyah, Head of Mental Health Department of Qatar University, and Dr Ahmad Al Saaei.
Ibrahim Al Somaih, PCDAA Secretary, said that the competition was held to create awareness among students on the harm done by drugs. A total of 71 researches were presented in the competition.
Dr Sadiq said that they were delighted to cooperate with PCDAA to organise the annual programme.
The winners of a painting contest for primary and preparatory students were also announced.
Aisha Muhammad Al Solaiti of Nosaiba bint Kaab Independent Primary School for girls won the first place in the primary level while Mubarak Abbas Al Maas of Al Dohail Model Independent School for boys won the second place and Ali Khalifa Al Ghanim of Arabian Gulf Independent Primary School won the third place.
In the preparatory level, Ayisha Mansoor Al Noaimi of Al Bayan Independent Preparatory School for girls, Saud Ali Abdullah Al Kaabi of Ahnaf bin Qais Independent Preparatory School for boys, and Abdul Rahman Ahmad Al Zaina of Ali bin Abu Talib Independent School for boys won the first, second and third places, respectively.
