Doha: Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), organised a seminar on fasting safely with diabetes, as part of its annual campaign on fasting Ramadan and diabetes.
The seminar aimed at educating and providing information to people with diabetes and advising them on the possible risks of fasting and how to fast safely so that they can avoid any serious risks or complications during the holy month.
Hamad Medical Cooperation consultant Dr Mohsen Eledrisi delivered a lecture on the care for diabetic patients during fasting and the assessment of the medical team of the patient situation.
The seminar also discussed diabetes medication adjustment and the timing of their intake during the holy month.
Furthermore, the seminar also included a lecture by QDA dietician and diabetes educator Nedaa El Khatib about the health risks that people diagnosed with diabetes may face during the holy month, such as low blood sugar rates, especially before braking their fasting as well as high blood sugar rates after having iftar meal and suhoor.
The lecture also gave some important guidelines to avoid the damage and complications that may occur as a result of fasting.
