DOHA: Kellogg’s cornflakes are back to the shelves after the Ministry of Business and Trade ordered a recall last month on health grounds. The Ministry said yesterday that it has allowed to resume sale of Kellogg’s cornflakes after taking out the damaged samples that were found unfit for human consumption.

The Ministry collected various samples of the product with different manufacturing dates and sent them to the central laboratories of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) for analysis following complaints about bad taste.

The tests proved “rancidity” in some samples forcing the Ministry to order a recall. The ministry has called on dealers and the traders to strictly comply with the health and safety requirements and ensure the product is stored in the proper way.

A product goes rancid when its fats, oils or other lipids chemically decompose, sometimes resulting in undesirable odors and flavours.
