DOHA: Investors’ wealth rose by a staggering QR6bn ($1.65bn) on the Qatari bourse yesterday as the market capitalisation jumped to QR530.13bn from QR524.11bn the previous day, as stocks rallied on the back of robust second-quarter results from some large-cap listed entities, including banks. The benchmark index of Qatar Exchange rose 112 points, or more than one percent, to 9,652.67 at the end of trading.
Muscat: H M Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman has issued a royal pardon for all those convicted in riot cases, for preventing authorities from carrying out their duties by using violence, causing public inconvenience, verbally insulting public servants, intentionally hampering traffic, setting fire to government institutions, vandalising public property, and manufacture and possession of explosives, who were not included in a previous pardon, Oman News Agency reported yesterday.
NEW YORK: Longtime ABC News executive Kate O’Brian will be Al Jazeera America’s president. O’Brian will report to Ehab Al Shihabi, head of Al Jazeera’s international operations, who was also named interim chief executive. Shannon High-Bassalik and David Doss, joining from CNN as senior vice presidents, and Marcy McGinnis, formerly of CBS News, round out the leadership team.
