Ramallah: Vice President of Palestine Hussein Al Sheikh condemned the Israeli Knesset's approval of a resolution to impose sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, affirming that this represents not only a direct assault on the rights of the Palestinian people, but also a serious escalation that undermines prospects for peace, stability, and the negotiated two-state solution that promotes and protects regional security.
Al Sheikh stated Wednesday that these unilateral Israeli actions blatantly violate international law and the ongoing international consensus regarding the status of the occupied Palestinian territories, including the West Bank.
He called on the international community to uphold international legitimacy and its resolutions, work to stop these violations, and prevent the entrenchment of occupation by force. He also urged the countries of the world to recognize the State of Palestine and to condemn and reject this resolution.
Earlier today, the Israeli Knesset ratified a resolution expressing official support for imposing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, during the concluding session of its agenda before entering its summer recess.
