DOHA: The second Labertha Falcon Competition being organised by Al Thakira Youth Centre will be held from December 8 to 13.
Ali Lahdan Al Mohannadi, Director of the centre, said the organising committee had decided to launch the second edition of the contest because of the big turnout of participants in the first event.
The aim of the championship, he said, is to introduce the falconry aspect of Qatari heritage to the new generation.
The private sector will play an important role in supporting this year’s event, he added.
Youth of the area decided to use ‘Labertha,’ which means plain land where people practise hunting, as the name of the championship.
The committee has prepared booklets to introduce the championship to the people and raise awareness among children about it. The booklets also contain prizes to be won and how the people can communicate with the committee via WhatsApp and SMS.
“Like other institutions in Qatar, we are responsible for maintaining Qatari heritage and identity, especially among the new generation. Therefore, a big chance will be given to the young generation to take part in the competition,” he said.
