DOHA: The Facebook page of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has won the “Best Interactive Platform Award 2012” at the third edition of the Arab E-Gov Web Awards jointly organised by the Arab Administrative Development Organisation (ARADO) and Pan Arab Awards Academy.
Colonel Abdullah Khalifa Al Muftah, Director of Public Relations Department, received the award and certificate of appreciation during the awards ceremony hosted by ARADO at Sharam Elsheikh City in Egypt last September 20.
Officials from the information and communication technology, economic experts and academicians from different Arab countries attended the ceremony. A discussion session on the “Role of social media in the Arab governments and its importance in direct communication between government officials and the public” was also held.
Organisers also presented other awards such as “The Best Government Strategic Website”, “Best Arab Government Social Media Page Award” and “Best Website Developing and Designing Company” which were bagged by companies, government institutions and organisations across the Arab world.
MoI officials said winning the award serves as a fruit of their big efforts in developing and updating its website and the Facebook page which boosted their keenness to have a real, excellent and active presence in the social media.
The pages of the MoI has witnessed continuous development and the recent update of its social networking page has drawn interest of the public who find the interactive platform very useful in dealing with the Ministry.
The MoI Facebook page could still be new to the public but such platform have already provided them easy accessibility to the programmes and events of the Ministry in addition to spreading the security awareness among different age groups.
The online platforms also enhanced the police role that helped reduce incidence of crimes and accidents. The page also receives suggestions and questions of the public on different issues and services of the Ministry.
As another added treat, the Ministry has recently launched the popular photo sharing application Instagram at MOI_QATAR so that concerned citizens could also contribute photos that would help maintain public order and safety.
And in order to reach out to wide coverage to the public, the Ministry has been keen to develop multi-language facility on its website and Facebook page such as English, Urdu, Hindi and Nepalese.
