DOHA: With the beginning of the new academic year, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the completion of work on 13 new schools and eight kindergartens in Doha and its outskirts, at a total cost of QR800m.
The new schools have been designed to accommodate up to 25 students in a class, Ashghal said.
The schools were built according to approved designs for schools in Qatar, five of them based on standards for large plots of lands, and eight according to limited-area standards.
The kindergartens were built according to the common design for kindergartens in Qatar.
The standard type of schools have 25 classrooms to accommodate about 650 students, along with various facilities, including science, languages and IT laboratories, libraries, internal and external sports and art halls, shaded parking spaces and services buildings.
The limited area type of schools have 18 classrooms to accommodate about 450 students and include science, languages and IT laboratories, libraries, and internal and external sports and art halls in addition to shaded parking spaces and services buildings.
The kindergartens have 12 classrooms to accommodate 240 children, shaded playing and activity areas, music, languages and computer rooms, and a library and shaded parking spaces, green areas and services buildings.
The designs are in line with the Qatari code for people with special needs, with ramps at entrances and exits and special specifications for bathrooms and other areas. The buildings have systems that save energy and water.
The Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani and the Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi, visited one of the completed schools. They were received by Eng. Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi, president of Ashghal, and a number of senior officials from Ashghal, the Supreme Education Council and the school management.
