Doha: Ten-men Al Sadd edged past Al Shahaniya 3-2 to extend their perfect run in the Qatar Stars League (QSL).
Yesterday at Al Gharafa Stadium, the teams shared a goal apiece at the end of half time.
Ibrahim Abdulmajid gave Al Sadd the lead in the 11th minute.
The former champions however suffered a setback three minutes later when they were reduced to ten men as winger Nadir Belhadj got the red card from referee.
Al Shahaniya thereafter took full advantage to resort parity through Saoud with one minute left for the first half.
Nine minutes on resumption Khalfan Ibrahim struck for Al Sadd to give the lead.
Al Sadd consolidated the lead in the 70th minute with Ali Asadalla finding the back of the nets.
Al Shahaniya refused to throw in the towel and managed to pull one back in the 89th minute with Luciano Vázquez getting his name on the scorers list to make it 3-2.
Thereafter, Al Shahaniya tried to secure the equaliser but in vain.
Al Sadd now have 12 points after four wins having beaten Al Wakra, Kharaitiyat and Umm Salal in their earlier matches.
Coach Hussain Amute’s side are in the second position behind leaders Lekhwiya, who have the same number of points but a better goal difference.
Yesterday’s match between Al Sadd and Al Shahaniya was the first round match which was postponed on account of Al Sadd’s participation in the Asian Champions League quarter-finals.
Al Shahaniya now have just one point after three matches.
