DOHA: A major reduction in the prices of more than 300 medicines took effect in Qatar yesterday.
Prices fell up to 70 percent for medicines including panadol, aspirin and those for treating diabetes and hypertension.
The unprecedented decline comes amid complaints about high prices of medicines in Qatar and is based on a GCC decision to unify the prices of a number of medicines in phases.
Retailers said that they had revised the prices since yesterday according to a new price list issued by the Pharmacy and Drug Control Department at the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) earlier.
The Department earlier issued a circular to retailers and wholesalers, saying the reduced prices will be in force from September 22. Prices of more medicines are expected to be reduced in a phased manner.
