Doha, Qatar: Al Markhiya Gallery opened the Print Friends exhibition at Fire Station: Artist in Residence in Doha, on Tuesday.
This phenomenal exhibition brings together 14 artists and designers from across the Arab world, showcasing works inspired by Arab Nation Street, a painting by Qatari artist Yousef Ahmad.
Al Markhiya Gallery Director Anas Kutit told Qatar News Agency that the exhibition grew out of Ahmad's Arab Nation Street, a work that evokes the intellectual, social and cultural atmosphere of the Arab world during the 1950s and 1960s through symbolic expressions that captured the spirit of the era.
Through the exhibition, the Gallery sought to inspire emerging generations to engage with that era through multiple visual readings that showcase, reinterpret and reframe artistic and linguistic themes, Kutit highlighted.
Running through October 30, the exhibition features Ibrahim Al Dhuwadi, Ananas Studio, Mobius Design Studio, Omaima Dajani, Hussein Alazaat, Khawla Al Shaibani, Zaid Sbeitan, Fatima Emad, Kinda Ghannoum, Mohammed Sharaf, Maryam Al-Homaid, Nasser Nasrallah, Naima Ben Ayad and Naila Al Sada.
Each participant presents an artistic response in a limited-edition work produced through screen printing, measuring 50 by 70 centimeters. Together, the 14 works form a collective artistic mosaic and an archival record that reinterprets an important chapter of Arab visual memory from an epochal perspective.
Al Markhiya Gallery seeks to bolster the local visual arts movement, enabling it to become a genuine catalyst for the contemporary Arab art scene across the Arab world through a wide range of exhibitions that celebrate the expertise and experiences of Qatari and resident artists while fostering stronger connections with their audiences.
The Gallery also strives, amid the community’s growing passion for visual arts, to showcase that interest more clearly, a trend reflected in the strong engagement with its exhibitions and the works of artists.
