Doha: Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) celebrated World Pharmacists Day at many health centres, including the Omar Bin Khatab (OBK) Health Centre which led celebrations as the first health centre in Qatar by organising an event to offer information to patients about the role of pharmacists.

The International Pharmaceutical Federation established World Pharmacists Day to place these specialists in a prime position to help patients take their medications in a timely and appropriate manner to ensure they receive full benefits of therapy.

Dr. Sahar Rizk, Chief Pharmacist at OBK, explained the relevance of focusing on the role of pharmacists which ‘is an essential part of primary healthcare system because they serve patients and the community by providing information and advice.”

She also highlighted the importance of providing pharmaceutical care to patients such as ensuring the correct dosage; educating the patient on how and when to take medication to avoid potential interactions with common foods; dispensing prescription medicines to the public; and keeping records of patients, prescriptions and allergies.

Rasha Saied, Pharmacist at OBK, insisted that the celebration of World Pharmacists Day will ensure patient awareness about drugs and stages of diseases.
