Philippines quake death toll rises to 195

MANILA: Philippines National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday reported the death toll following the 7.2-magnitude earthquake which struck Central Visayas October 15 has increased to 195.
 
The Council reported today at 6am that the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology had recorded 2,547 aftershocks, 64 of which were felt according to a Philippines News Agency (PNA) report today.
 
Of the 195 fatalities, the Council said 182 were from Bohol, 12 from Cebu, and one from Siquijor. 
 
It said at least 651 were injured, including 557 from Bohol. Twelve more remained missing in Bohol.
 
The Council said the quake had affected 597,598 families or 2,991,143 people in 1,319 villages in 54 towns and six cities in six provinces. 
 
Of these, 12,989 families or 71,387 people are staying in 99 evacuation centers.
 
Damage to property caused by the quake breached the P1-billion mark, at P1,097,292,000. 
 
This included P898.171 million in Bohol, P197.401 million in Cebu, P1.45 million in Siquijor, and P270,000 in Negros Oriental, PNA added. (QNA)
