A session at the Aspetar Qatar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital’s third annual conference.
Doha: Aspetar Qatar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital held its third annual conference, the Athlete’s Ankle, on November 17 and 18 as part of its Current Concepts series.
The event brought together world opinion leaders in the field of Ankle Pathology in a bid to share knowledge and further research through lecture highlights, case discussions and audience interaction.
“Sports related ankle joint injuries are common; in fact, ankle sprains were among the most commonly reported complaints during the last FIFA World Cup and London 2012 Olympics. The Athlete’s Ankle was a chance for leading figures from around the world to come together to discuss ankle pathology and to further develop existing research,” said Dr Khalifa Al Kuwari, Aspetar’s Chief Executive Officer.
The topics were divided into five categories, Traumatology, Instability, Impingment and Tendinopathy, and Cartilage.
Well-renowned speakers from all over the world such as Dr Thomas Bauer from France , Dr James Calder from UK, Prof Jay Hertel and Prof John Kennedy from USA, Prof Pau Golano from Spain and Swedish orthopaedic surgeon, Prof Jon Karlsson, gathered together with the Aspetar Team.
The conference sessions were open to all those interested in the study of the subject whether doctors, researchers, coaches or athletes.
The Aspetar Current Concepts series is dedicated to exploring and researching different sports related injuries. The first conference, the Athlete’s Knee, was held in October 2010, while the second edition, the Athlete’s Elbow, was held in December 2011.
