DOHA: Gao Youzhen (pictured), Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Qatar yesterday said that the Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi had expressed grave concern over the continuous large-scale military operation by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
Foreign Minister Yang during a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Mohammed Amr on the current situation in Gaza Strip had expressed China’s concern over the military operations by Israel against the Gaza Strip and had condemned the abuse of force that leads to civilian casualties, including women and children.
China has urged all relevant parties, the Israeli side in particular, to exercise maximum restraint in a bid to avoid further escalation of tension. Yang had noted that, given the current situation in the region, it has become even more important and urgent to solve the Palestinian issue. The international community should pay more attention and make more efforts toward that end. Relevant influential countries should change their partial stance and take up responsibilities.
China supports Arab countries just stance on the Palestinian issue, appreciates and supports efforts of regional countries including Egypt and the Arab League to ease the current tensions. China supports Palestine to be established as a country with east Jerusalem as its capital and possessing full sovereignty and independence, in accordance with borders agreed upon in 1967.
