DOHA: An institute to train women in childcare is set to open in April next year. The Qatar Nanny Training Academy is an initiative of H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser.
The academy will seek to contribute to human resources development in Qatar by providing educational and training services in the field of childcare that are in keeping with the country’s Qatari and Islamic identity. The academy will provide courses in fields ranging from hygiene and nutrition to entertaining children and first aid
The academy’s founding committee held a press conference yesterday, which was addressed by Rabia Kerzabi, the head of the committee, Amal Abdullatif Al Mannai and Abdul Rahman Al Mulla, both members of the committee, and Bushra Al Nehaily, academic director of the academy.
Kerzabi said the academy will work to attract female students to its 10-month training programme designed to produce qualified nannies for Qatari and Arab households. The nannies will earn a certificate attesting to their ability to bring up children in keeping with Qatari and Islamic traditions.
Al Mulla said the strategy undertaken by the academy is based on partnerships with international experts in the field of childcare. He said the academy will offer its services to students free of charge.
According to Al Mannai, the goal of the academy is to protect children from the influence of other cultures, which is spreading in the society through Asian nannies, in particular. She said training Arab nannies in childcare that is in keeping with Qatari and Islamic traditions was of immense importance. THE PENINSULA
